I read that this evening would find us with the biggest and brightest full moon of 2012 and it did not dissapoint. It’s the 2012 Supermoon, shot from Albuquerque.

I did however need to jump into the car after I loaded up my tripod and camera so that I could get closer to the mountain and actually get it rising over the ridge line. I read that the moon appears larger if you can identify things in the foreground, but that is probably best when there is more light out.

At any rate, these are a couple of the shots.

I shot a cactus in the foreground for a different look

All photos shot with Nikon D100, 70-200 zoom with 2x extender. I believe that’s about equivalent to a normal 600mm lens.

Clear of the mountain ridge, but behind a thin veil of high cloud.

Supposedly the moon will be at the full point at 11:35

The weather has been without drama for the past several weeks and the last several road trips did not yield any photos, although not for the lack of trying. So while working on a new gallery of wildflowers I was tweaking the color settings when I decided to get a bit radical because of the so much of this image had blue tones. I thought it was interesting to see how the yellow was unaffected.

Spring is on it’s way in New Mexico, but because of the weather patterns we are afraid the mountain will close due to drought again until the Monsoon season starts sometime in July.

Bit out of sequence, since I should post an article about my daughter’s film showing on Friday nite, but the photos are not as good as the story, so I’m posting from our Saturday jaunt on the Manhattan Beach.

There was a big wind and I took about 20 minutes to try and get a couple of shots I liked.

These are not bad seeing as how I’m using my wife’s new replacement pocket camera since my nikon travel lens decided to quit last night in the middle of my daughter’s show. I brought it along for the show and the grand daughter’s birthday which was the next day, Sunday.

I picked the travel camera because it did have a fully manual function and reviewed well. My travel camera has bit the dust, the lens got full of dirt and it’s not worth the repair costs since the manufacturer (Panasonic) won’t cover the dirt as a warranty item. Don’t buy Lumix.

Success here in my opinion.

I looked up the wind-chill for those figures and it was 4 degrees F.

I slogged through the snow for a bit and returned after about an hour of hiking.

I did get a nice panorama.
