Hurry up and Wait

October 12, 2000

Seems that I have been doing a lot of waiting lately, waiting and riding, and waiting and painting the house, waiting and.... and..

Waiting. That's what I do, wait.

Question to NSR, "So, what do you think?"

NSR, "I think I would like to make this happen."

"Ok, what is your timing?"

"Now"

Puzzled look - more clarification - "Well, the house deal is agreed upon, I worked that out with the owner on Sunday. If I come back here, I don't want to waste time wandering around looking for houses."

Raised eyebrows -"And the kids?"

"Daughter was advised in a phone call that she is ok to join a private school, son is good with the High School that goes with the house."

"Well, then we need to work out the details, like compensation. Since this is an equity position, I'll talk with the other partners and put together a written proposal for you to look at. It will take a few days."

Smile - "Good. I think we will be able to work well together, but I need to work fast, if the house sells underneath me, I'll have unhappy campers, including me."

"Get the paperwork started on the house. In California it's easy to get out of escrow (break the deal) for a thousand reasons."

"Well, I don't want to start it and then break the deal."

"I'd still get the paperwork started."

Turns out, it was good advice, since it took about 4 hours working out tiny little nits and gnats in the 8 page contract that is part of a California purchase.

The check for the deposit is written, the realtor is holding the contract, waiting for a phone call.

Meanwhile, I wait.
