On the way up the backbone of California we spot the first colors of fall about an hour or two after leaving Lake Tahoe.
We entered Yosemite Nat. Park from the back side and drove off to another day hike to one of the alpine lakes. Again, about a mile hike and a 500 foot gain in elevation.

We had a late lunch down in the valley and waited for the famous overlook for the sunset (alpen glow) shots facing east into the valley.
After watching the sunset we headed out the valley to the west into the fading light.
