There I was, working on the macro settings of my camera and since I use manual focus, I was moving the camera every so slightly in and out to try and get the Mountain Parsley into focus.
And along came a ???
I’ve got no clue just exactly what this is, but it sure has some interesting horns on the front end.
As a matter of perspective, check out the little fly on the edge of the flower.

The trifecta of climbs is complete. Saturday chimney canyon, Sunday TWA, and Monday La Luz.
We start with a new to me, a flowering cactus which I believe to be a king cup cactus – which is in the variety known as the hedgehog cactus. The needles are much farther apart on this than the ones I photographed earlier in the season.

This next one is unknown at the moment – and I’m not really sure you can call it a flower since I don’t see all of the flower “parts.”

Day two of my attempt to have a 3 climb weekend I wandered through the TWA canyon to the summit. Some of the flowers are shown here.

Yellow Salsify

Wild Rose

Finally, my third attempt to photograph this flower is successful. In the TWA canyon (Domingo Baca) I found this one solitary example of Starry False Solomon’s Seal (Maianthemum stellatum) and finally got the close up that I have tried for three weeks to get.
I think this is a Horned Lizard – lives on ants and the like, seen on the Crest Trail, near the Tram.
I used my tram pass to hike the upper trails prior to my big weekend of hiking, did a quick 4 miles and was able to sit and watch the sun set from 10,000 feet.

For a bit of interesting perspective, the mountain 5 years ago was covered in fresh snow and I took off over Memorial Day weekend to go north to Colorado and got in a bit of skiing. You can see the contrast to this weekend and the images that follow with the diary entry from May 27, 2008, Against the Blue.
