Out of the mountains, we crossed the great inland sea of agriculture that is California and arrived on the coast. I was really hoping for some opportunities to shoot the wildlife, but the fog bank was hanging on the edge of the islands where the seals and sea lions had congregated.
So images of the wild sea will have to do.
When I have a chance I’ll make some kind of flash movie of some of the waves – as I shot in fast succession.

After wandering through the park taking photos we headed down the coast to Big Sur, stopping here and there to look back and shoot the views.

Lunch was marvelous and then we shopped for a bit in a gift store but the highlight was sitting on the balcony having a late afternoon cup of tea.

Dinner was marginal – and I had this cough that attacked with a vengeance. Tried to knock it out with a hot toddy with with only limited success. I had to wrap my arms around my knees to keep from pulling a muscle in my chest or back.

On the way up the backbone of California we spot the first colors of fall about an hour or two after leaving Lake Tahoe.
We entered Yosemite Nat. Park from the back side and drove off to another day hike to one of the alpine lakes. Again, about a mile hike and a 500 foot gain in elevation.

Full sized panorama here. (After image loads in new window you can enlarge by clicking on the new image)
We had a late lunch down in the valley and waited for the famous overlook for the sunset (Alpen glow) shots facing east into the valley.

After watching the sunset we headed out the valley to the west into the fading light.

We go back to Emerald bay, Lake Tahoe. This time from the tour ship.

After the tour, lunch and then a drive again to Emerald Bay where we got out and took a short day hike about a mile into the wilderness and a 500 ft. elevation gain. Eagle Lake – Desolation Wilderness.
Lake Tahoe – Emerald Bay
Then sunset on Lake Tahoe

Toes were toasted here.

Not with the new camera – but the start of our road trip across California and back.
