Photo of the day, Sunday July 29, 2012

Well, it’s a screen capture turned into a photo, but it’s time to remember so I’m posting it.

It’s my Sunday morning walk up the mountain, in case you were wondering. The big news is found in the time section.  See that – even though I started a minute later that indicated, it’s still under 3 hours.  YEAH.  Second best time ever, which means that even though I’m a year older, I can still match my best time.  The previous best is only about 4 minutes faster.

I didn’t take a single photo, just a blast to the top.

Photos of the day, Saturday 7.28.2012

Took the morning off from hiking today and by the time the afternoon rolled around we headed on up to Santa Fe to attend the “Spanish Market” which supposedly draws some 70,000 people a year to view the various wares.

I took pictures of other stuff.

This was growing like a weed on a street corner, but the light was right and the blue New Mexico sky did not disappoint.  It’s a bit difficult to get a good flower image when the wind is whipping a long stalk around and around.  I did the best I could with a high shutter speed.

In a section of the grounds of one of the churches there is a garden with the stations of the cross.  The artist who did these pieces is Gib Singleton whose works you can google.  I grabbed a couple of images in the late afternoon light.

This was only one of two or three of the 12 statutes that had full sun.

Seeing how this poster was about to come down at the close of the exhibit, I thought it would be nice to remember it here.

The day is still young, but these were from this morning.

This is a good example of an nearly impossible shot without a tripod and a HDR software package.  I actually tried to have Photoshop do an HDR conversion (High Dynamic Range) but it didn’t work out, so what I ended up doing was taking one photo of the properly exposed sky, and merging it with another photo of the properly exposed mountain and with a bit of cut N paste, there is a reasonable image.  The camera just can’t deal with the wide range of light in a photo like this.

This skinny guy, about 3 feet long, was stretched across the trail and showed no real sign of being interested in moving for me.  I’m not sure what kind of snake it is, but I can tell you that it’s the first snake I’ve ever seen on the La Luz trail in the five years I’ve been hiking it.  One other time I came across a rattler in the foothills,  but never along the tram trail or the La Luz.

Today, its about the bugs.

Those wings look like plastic.

And this guy – I guess I’ll have to change my strategy to take bug photos, especially with larger bugs.  The macro mode on my camera will focus down to one inch, and as you can see, parts of the bee are in focus, and then there are the parts that are not.  I love the grips they use to hang onto the flowers.

The rest of the images over at the Journal.
